Description

This project studies the degradation and maintenance problems of complex repairable systems. Through the analysis of the dynamics of the multi-state system by Markov and semi-Markov processes, dynamic multi-state system reliability models can be developed.The importance measures, i.e. the ranking of system components in a multi-state system, will be studied. By analyzing the dynamic MSS models, the multi-stage expansion strategies can be developed. The objective of this strategy is to minimize the sum of costs while satisfying availability/reliability constraints at each stage.Based on the most important components, some practical decision making issues related to maintenance for MSS will be investigated to reduce maintenance cost and improve system reliability.Overall, the newness and novelty of the proposal will include: dynamic evaluation and prediction of system states, reliability evaluation .and modelling; uncertainty importance measures of components; maintenance optimization, and a new multi-stage expansion strategy for multi-state systems.
