Description

Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) technologies are becoming increasingly important for use in modern society. This proposal intends to tackle the design and analysis of novel initial connection and scheduling algorithms for IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX). The designs of novel initial connection, scheduling algorithms and performance modeling are proposed for both PMP and mesh mode in IEEE 802.16 MAC layers. In PMP mode, some new algorithms will be designed for concurrent initial ranging request/connections (CRC) and adaptive exponential backoff mechanism (AEB) will be provided. In the mesh mode, a tree scheduling algorithm for centralized scheduling and a credit based algorithm for distributed scheduling will also be designed. We will take QoS into consideration for the nodes when they request next transmission opportunities in facing the competition of the neighboring list. In particular, the novel algorithms using credit transform and credit competition will be designed to enable the mesh scheduling algorithms to dynamically reflect the QoS requests of the mesh nodes.
