Description

In view of: (i) microbial oil produced by microorganisms cultivated in agriculture wastes has chemicals similar to vegetable oil, and (ii) studies of the tribological characteristics of sliding mechanical mating pairs with nano-Schiff-base/Schiff-base-copper-complex have shown superior tribological performance than those of their counterparts without nano-Schiff-base/Schiff-base-copper-complex, it is anticipated that lubricant — oil based upon microbial oil with nano-Schiff-base/Schiff-base-copper-complex can effectively substitute both crude-oil/petroleum base lubricant and vegetable/agriculture-oil base lubricant. This project aims at preliminarily studying a feasible technique: (i) to cultivate microorganisms using agriculture waste for producing microbial oil cells for oil extraction, (ii) to prepare lubricant — oil based upon microbial oil with nano-Schiff-base/Schiff-base-copper-complex blended by little amount of vegetable oil, with different level of substituent concentrations; and (iii) performing tribological tests for the lubricants prepared from above and to compare their performance with Shell Tellus T32 lubricant; etc.
