Organic Syntheses of Multifunctional Inhibitors for the Enzymes in Mevalonate Pathway

The enzymes in the mevalonate pathway have been identified as important drug targets for treating cardiovascular disease and cancer. The main purpose of this research is to synthesize multifunctional enzyme inhibitors that can inactivate several enzymes in the mevalonate pathway simultaneously. The hypothesis is that multifunctional inhibitors can become potentially better drugs, offering more efficient treatment of diseases with fewer side effects. The hypothesis is supported by the current clinical practice of drug combination. The researchers have previously reported several multifunctional inhibitors, and they plan to further optimize these inhibitors by incorporating various functional groups. These synthetic molecules will be tested on all enzymes involved in the mevalonate pathway.
