Molecule-based Magnetic Materials Constructed from New Cyanochromium(III) Building Blocks
DescriptionThis project is concerned with the synthesis of molecule-based magnetic materials based on new cyanochromium(III) building blocks. Molecule-based magnetic materials have received much attention in recent years by researchers in the fields of chemistry, physics, and material science because of the discovery of high Tc and high coercivity ferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic behaviour, and the various new physical phenomena associated with these materials. These materials may also provide the basis of new or improved magnetic applications or devices. In this project, new cyanochromium(III) complexes containing the tridentate hydridotris(pyrazoyl)borate (Tp) ligand will first be synthesized. These complexes will then be treated with various paramagnetic metal centres to produce clusters, one-dimensional, two-dimensional, and three-dimensional materials. The structures and magnetic properties of these materials will be investigated. These studies should contribute to the development of new molecule-based magnetic materials and devices.
