Uncertainty presents major challenges to today's global business management. A recent survey shows that supply uncertainty has become one of the most significant concerns. The proposed project addresses some important issues about how to manage supply uncertainty. Part 1 considers the market competition among multiple supply chains which are subject to inventory supply uncertainty. Part 2 studies uncertainty of supply in the form of wireless spectrum under the new cognitive telecommunication networks. Part 3 investigates the compound effects of demand uncertainty and supply uncertainty in Quick Response systems which have been adopted in many industries recently. This proposed project has a significant relevance to Hong Kong and China, as the region has become a major player in the global market. The findings of the project shall provide supply chain managers useful guidelines on capacity investment, market competition, contract design, inventory ordering, and pricing decisions, when the risk of supply uncertainty is present.
