Lubrication Enhancements for Superhard Nanocomposite Coatings
Project: Research
Researcher(s)
Description
The advancement in the design and fabrication new generation of superhard nanocomposite coatings has large potential for the manufacturing sectors to explore in terms of improving reliability, increasing productivity and so on. However, most of the nitride based hard coatings comes with a price - high friction! This limits the application of the coatings in sliding machine components because friction induces wear during sliding and results in reduction in component life. This project aims to investigate the feasibility to reduce the friction of such superhard coatings using C implantation techniques or by means of applying a second layer of solid lubricant coating.Detail(s)
