Project Details
Description
The project aims to link library users with the unique history of Hong Kong lighthouses. Digital technology provided easy access to library users, and yet, the usage of archival collections continues to be low. At the same time, the need for innovation in library services for cultural heritage scholarship and its advancement is emerging. This project will connect students with lighthouse artifacts, archival collections, scholars in global academia, and wider communities to explore the evolution of Hong Kong’s aids to navigation for the past millennium. Librarians will move beyond data archiving to serve as innovation facilitators that co-create and co-develop various lighthouse heritage research projects by exposing students to various resources for restoring history and rebuilding communities. The project will also demonstrate how students can contribute to knowledge creation and preservation efforts for a specific cultural heritage topic that is characteristic of Hong Kong’s unique past and promising future.
