The popularity of high-resolution digital cameras and broadband Internet access has stimulated the need for the storage and the transmission of bulk multimedia data. However, certain amount of these data, such as personal photos and videos, are considered private. The access to them should be well controlled and this stimulates the need for joint compression and encryption. While most of the existing research effort focuses on embedding encryption in classical compression schemes, the researchers intend to study how to incorporate compression in chaotic cryptosystems without affecting its security level. The outcome of this research will lead to a pioneer work along this direction and a better understanding of this topic. As a result, efficient and secure chaos-based joint compression and encryption schemes can be designed for the storage and transmission of confidential multimedia data.
