Project Details

Description

Business process monitoring and management (BPM) systems are seen by today's leading organizations as an increasingly critical tool for continuous business process improvements. Traditional BPM solutions often lack the capability to deal with real-time malfunctions and problems. The principal investigator received a research grant in 2005 for a project titled "Adding Diagnostic Capability to Business Process Management Systems by Intelligent Agents". The current project can be viewed as a continuation of this research direction, focussing on the application. The objectives are to develop innovative technology for building BPM systems that provide critical functionality at all times. They are able to provide real-time access to critical business performance indicators to improve the speed and effectiveness of business operations. The proposed systems will be developed by first applying novel intelligent agent technology. “Intelligent agent” denotes a software-based computer system that enjoys a number of intelligent abilities, such as autonomy, social ability, reactivity, and pro-activity. Second, ontology will be used in the proposed systems. Third, the proposed systems will use the researchers’ own fuzzy diagnostic framework.
