Description
Understanding what constitutes effective leadership continues to be one of the areas
of greatest interest to both managers and academics, however, only limited work has
been done on this in the context of transforming economies and it continues to be
puzzling to many. This is likely one reason there is great diversity in results among
foreign firms who have tried to work in countries such as China, with some reaching
great success and others meeting frustrating failure. This research seeks to help
develop a more refined understanding of what constitutes effective leadership in
large transforming economies like China so that management theory will be
advanced and firms can avoid a trail and error approach to leadership in the future.
