Description
The EE Peer Tutoring Scheme introduced in Semester B 2007/08 for year-2 students has been successful in strengthening the learning environment for students, students’ learning skills and academic performance as well as their sense of belonging to EE department.Due to the recent “department admission” arrangement, year-1 students with DSE background have been admitted to departments since 2017/18. A new EE Peer Tutoring Scheme for year-1 students has been created to help these students. With the surplus resources in the project (Project No: 6980129) from Teaching and Learning Fund 2016-17 from Office of Education Development and Gateway Education, Phase 1 of this new scheme has been piloting in Semester A 2017/18.Phase 1 of this pilot scheme has been running well in general. However, for students’ long-term success, Phase 2 of this pilot project needs be developed and implemented to provide students with more support. This project proposes an extension of the exiting EE Peer Tutoring Scheme piloted to year-1students, which will end at the end of Semester A 2017/18, to the end of Semester B 2017/18. The major purpose of this project is to: (a) provide tutors and tutees in the scheme with adequate time to build up their habit of self-regulated learning (SRL), (b) encourage other year-1 students to join the scheme in Semester B, and (c) allow the project team to explore more about the optimal arrangement of the EE peer tutoring scheme for year-1 students.
