Project Details

Description

In the past two decades, we have witnessed rapid development of the international video coding standards from H.261, through MPEG-1, MPEG-2, H.263, MPEG-4, to H.264 (AVC). Recently, China has also developed its own video standard of AVS. These technologies have been widely used in VCD, DVD, digital TV broadcasting, blu-ray disc, and high-definition TV. They have significantly changed our life styles over the last decade. In addition, the two standard organizations of ITU and ISO are now targeted to develop the next generation of video coding standards with higher compression efficiency and specific functionalities. The major objective of this project is to develop new inter and intra modes techniques to further enhance the current video coding structure for the next generation of video coding standards.
