Forensic imaging is a fast growing topic in the investigation of crime, mass fatality victims and cause of death. A brand new course “Forensic Imaging” is proposed to provide knowledge from fundamental imaging anatomy and diagnostic imaging modalities to practical scanning tasks for forensic investigation. Materials will be delivered in the forms of e-lectures and online blended learning/revision resources for students at their fundamental stage of study. Students will be trained in applying various diagnostic imaging modalities (hand-held surface scanner, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging) to generate imaging datasets. An online forensic imaging case study platform combining the imaging datasets with 2-D cadaveric images into realistic 3-D models and animations will be developed for the first time, which could replace traditional 2-D documentation for an enhanced learning and assessment experience. We anticipate that the forensic imaging case study platform will simulate forensic imaging investigation of natural and forensic deaths, which ultimately will expand into a library of death investigation cases for both human and veterinary forensic medicine. The tangible outcome which will benefit CityU students from Forensic Chemistry, Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, as well as other forensic science sectors locally and worldwide.
