Emerging Cinematic 3D Spatial Sound Arrays: New Sound Production Methods
Project: Research
Researcher(s)
Description
The world of cinema sound is on the verge of a revolutionary change with emerging spatial 3D sound formats such as IOSONO, Auro-3D and Dolby Atoms that have begun to be installed in cinemas globally from late 2011. There are arguments suggesting that the impact to a moviegoers experience will be greater than that of cinema 3D projection of images itself. This proposal is based on the author’s Hollywood informed approach towards film score production with special attention given to the impact of dialogue and sound design on the recording and mixing of a music score for cinema 5.1 surround formats. This proposal will expand the author’s research to investigate current, emerging approaches and the development of new spatial audio recording techniques, applied specifically to the three emerging spatial 3D sound arrays and the impact to the moviegoer’s cinematic experience.Detail(s)
