DRA-slot Hybrid Antennas for Dualband and Wideband Applications
Project: Research
Researcher(s)
Description
The dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) has been studied extensively for a number of advantages such as its small size, light weight, low loss and ease of excitation. In this project, the DRA will be combined with the slot antenna in a novel way to give hybrid dualband antennas. From the dualband antennas, wideband hybrid antennas will also be designed to meet the needs of modern communications. Two hybrid antenna structures are proposed in this project. The first structure utilizes a hollow DRA with the slot antenna integrated inside the hollow region, and thus the design is compact. For the second one, the DRA is stacked above a conducting cavity onto which the slot antenna is cut. This method allows the use of conventional DRAs. Design curves will be generated to help antenna engineers design the hybrid antennas easily and quickly.Detail(s)
