Project Details

Description

"English language learning is a life-long personal effort, in which a high level of proficiency is achieved only by learning both inside and beyond the language classrooms. Many successful English learners achieve a high level of proficiency through their independent out-of-class language learning and use. Successful English learners also continue to enhance their language ability in the workplace in order to tackle different professional demands. People generally look up to successful role models, and language learners are no exception. Language learning stories by successful English learners give us direction and inspiration. This project proposes to develop a digital platform to collect, archive and disseminate Hong Kong English learners’ stories about how they learned and use English. The digital archive will serve multiple purposes: 1. A resource for students to learn about language learning strategies from other students and professionals; 2. A platform for students to practice their English and engage in reflection about their learning practices by producing narratives for other students; 3. A resource for teachers and curriculum planners for understanding how our students understand the learning practice and how we can help them become better learners."
