Development of an Artificial Intelligence Aided Air Ventilation Assessment and Optimization System
Project: Research
Researcher(s)
Description
Insufficient air ventilation in urban areas is one of the major causes of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) transmission. Therefore, accurate assessment and improvement of urban air ventilation are urgently required. To this end, this project aims to apply artificial intelligence techniques to establish an air ventilation assessment (AVA) and optimization system. Its first function is to make accurate and comprehensive AVA in urban areas based on deep learning (DL) to combine the advantages of field measurements and computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations. The second function is the optimization of building shape and layout design to maximize the local air ventilation combining DL and optimization techniques. The system to be developed will be an effective tool for urban planning, building shape and layout design, and city renovations, which will facilitate Hong Kong to become a green, sustainable, and comfortable city, and improve the health and wellbeing of urban dwellings.Detail(s)
