Description

In this project, an underground pipe robot will be developed to navigate inside underground pipe for pipe inspection and rehabilitation. Currently, iron piping are common materials used underground. Although these materials have proven to have long, useful lives, improvements in plastics offer additional alternatives today. In most cases, the piping is installed during new construction, and few people think about it again until a problem arises. An understanding of best practices for inspecting and servicing buried piping will help us keep systems operating as designed. Therefore, regular inspection and maintenance are great important to prevent any problem, they can also ensure that these underground service systems can be operated normally. However, current maintenance work usually requires open trench excavation that interrupts service on the road, and sometimes, this method is not feasible. Besides, most of these operation requires labor intensive operation. Therefore, the objective of this project is to develop a pipe robot to perform pipe rehabilitation in underground. The successful development of this new and advanced pipe robot will also bring significant benefit to other underground work and operation.
