Developing New OTTV Equation and Coefficients for Commercial Buildings Constructed with Energy-Efficient Systems in Hong Kong

Description

In the past decade, there is significant change in the design and construction of commercial buildings with improved thermal insulation and energy efficiency such as double skin faade (DSF), green roof (GR), building integrated photovoltaic (BiPV) system, etc. However, building designers have difficulty to calculate OTTV for these types of building as the current version of OTTV equations and coefficients cannot be applied into buildings with these construction features. The objective of this proposed research project is to revise the existing OTTV equations and incorporate the heat gain components through DSF, GR and BiPV panel. Reduced heat gain due to installation of these energy-efficient building elements can be taken into account in the OTTV calculation. A dataset of new coefficients will be derived for calculation of OTTV. With the results from this research project, the existing Code of Practice for OTTV in Buildings in Hong Kong can be revised.
