Description

Nowadays, environment-friendliness is playing a more and more important role in product design. Our education needs to well prepare our science and engineering students for the trend of design for environment with both knowledge and practice skills. This teaching project is developed based on the needs for the courses MBE4046 “Green Industrial Systems”. According to past teaching experiences and students feedbacks, there is a significant lack of practice opportunities for the course while students only attend the lectures for in-class teaching and literature reading. The primary objective of this teaching development project is to enhance students’ learning experience by creating a collaborative-learning and problem-based practice system. Students go beyond the classroom and implement the concepts and analysis methods taught in class to different designs or systems of interest that arise from real life. Connections with different on-campus operation groups such as the CityU canteen, the students’ union and the management groups of academic buildings will be developed so that students can do on-site surveys and analysis. A poster session will be held, open to the whole university, to showcase the students’ work and promote public environmental awareness. This project will also help to enhance the environmental performance of the daily operation of our campus.
