Description

In this project, a simple design tool will be developed as a deliverable for a telecom service provider. The design tool is based on the approximation method developed by the investigator for the dimensioning of hierarchical wireless networks. An approximation method developed by the investigator for a two-tier network, known as the Multiservice Overflow Approximation (MOA) method, will be used as a basis of the design tool. The proposed MOA method uses proven approximation techniques and is found to be computationally efficient. The developed techniques will enable the use of different wireless networks according to their cost structure and coverage. An example is the case where calls could be serviced by the nearest public WiFi network; if the WiFi network is fully occupied, calls are redirected to the nearest WiMAX network, and further redirected to a 3G network if necessary. The design tool will help to design the WiFi, WiMAX and 3G networks for the required Quality of Service (QoS) specification of different service types with different traffic loadings.
