Ever since the importance of stereochemistry in carbon-containing compounds had beenestablished, the making of enantiopure compounds became one of important goal ofsynthetic chemists and it is still one of the important goals of synthetic chemists today.To make enantiopure compounds, one of the most efficient ways is to use chiral catalyst.Traditionally, chiral catalyst can be formed with a ligand that has chiral carbon atom oratoms to coordinate with a metal ion. This approach has made great progress and thereare a great number of catalysts that are made this way. Another approach is to usechiral catalyst based on chiral-at-metal complex. One can use chiral or achiral ligand inthis case. Much less has been done using the chiral-at-metal approach and in thisproposal, we propose to develop syntheses of chiral-at-metal complexes and use them ascatalyst in organic transformations. Several different methods to synthesize new chiral-atmetal complexes are detailed.
