Project Details

Description

Data-driven learning, the direct use of corpora of text in language learning, has proven to be effective in the teaching and learning of writing skills, including academic writing for research publication. Given the difficulties in writing for publication of scholars who are new members of the academic community of practice and whose first language is not English such as those in Hong Kong, this project proposes to introduce this approach to language professionals, PhD students and supervisors (across the disciplines) in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China.. The goal is to enhance the academic literacy, particularly research writing competence, and hence increase research publication output of Hong Kong UGC-funded PhD students in terms of both quality and quantity.
