Conductive Concrete
Project: Research
Researcher(s)
Description
Using electrically conductive concrete for deicing is an emerging material technology. Due to its electrical resistance, conductive concrete can generate sufficient heat to prevent ice formation on concrete pavement when a power source is connected. Under the supported of the present research fund, a new conductive concrete mix utilizing steel fibers and steel shavings or carbon products will be developed. The mechanical and physical properties of the conductive concrete mix will be test to verify if the new material meets the ASTM and AASHTO specifications. Concrete slabs will be constructed with the conductive concrete for conducting deicing experiments under snowstorm conditions.Detail(s)
