Description

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a multi-carrier modulation technology with good spectral efficiency. Recently, multiple antennae system is used to improve system performance of OFDM. It can increase spectrum efficiency without increasing bandwidth. The bit-error-rate performance of MIMO-OFDM will be considerably degraded when there are channel errors. This project will develop robust technology for MIMO-OFDM systems. A realistic double directional channel model for channel estimation and equalization is proposed and investigated. In this model, spatial angular information at both ends is included. The main distinctive feature of the model representation is that the spatial angles are divided into bins of the same delay and the same Doppler frequency. This representation gives the pertinent physical channel information and thus helps develop efficient channel estimation and tracking algorithm in finding the channel information in time variant environments. The research results will enhance the reliability performance and throughput rate of MIMO-OFDM systems.
