Antiviral and Antitumor - RMGS

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Dysfunctional/dysregulation of heat shock proteins (HSPs) causes many human diseases (e.g., cancers, neurodegenerative diseases, infectious diseases). HSPs rapidly increased to maintain protein homeostasis upon both intracellular and extracellular stresses such as virus infections. However, the clinical application of Hsp inhibitors is a great challenge because of the low specificity. Currently, only Hsp90 inhibitor Gamitrinib is approved for antitumor treatment. More specific Hsp inhibitors are urgently needed to treat human tumors and virus infections. In this study supported by Ningbo Huisi Digital Tech Co., we will develop novel inhibitors that specifically target Hsp70s and Hsp27 and reveal their antiviral (≥3 viruses) and antitumor(≥3 cancer types) and dissect their underlying mechanisms of antiviral and anticancer. The outcomes of the study would pave a way for developing new drugs for treating cancer patients and/or individuals who suffer infectious diseases caused by viruses such as coronaviruses, enteroviruses, etc.
