Project Details

Description

Quantification of blocking frequencies over Asia/Siberia for present climate conditions based on reanalysis data using Lagrangian and Eulerian methods. In particular location, intensities, duration, extension and frequency are assessed.Analysis of GCM simulations for present and future climate conditions to assess the representation of blocking events over Asia/Siberia in the GCM and possible changes under enhanced greenhouse gas forcing. Investigation of possible impacts for the East Asian regional climateStudy of the physical and dynamical processes involved in the occurrence of blocking events, particularly those of longer duration (more intense), including their onset and decay, by calculating dynamic and energetic parameters of the large-scale atmospheric flow; analyzing the role of large-scale teleconnections, snow cover, sea surface temperature anomalies.
