A Spatio-temporal Query Processing Framework for Vehicular Networks
DescriptionThe promise of location-based services (LBS) is to provide valuable services for users based on their locations. With the standardization of the Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) and Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE or IEEE 802.11p) designed for high-speed vehicular networks, vehicular networks will usher in a new era of pervasive computing. Unfortunately, it is very inefficient to apply existing LBS frameworks to vehicular environments due to many unique characteristics of vehicular networks. The long-term goal of this project is to enable ubiquitous deployment of efficient and scalable LBS in vehicular networks. To achieve this goal, this project will address several major problems: (1) design a flexible and extensible location-based query processing framework to support various LBS in vehicular networks; (2) utilize the characteristics of vehicular networks to optimize the framework, (3) adapt the framework to the DSRC/WAVE functionality; and (4) develop query optimizations with quality guarantees for continuous LBS.
