A Nonlinear Van Der Waals Force Model for Large Amplitude Vibration of Multi-layered Graphene Sheets

The proposed project aims to develop a nonlinear mechanics model for the large amplitude vibration of multi-layered graphene sheets (MLGSs). In contrast to the existing mechanics model in which the van der Waals (vdW) force was treated as a linear function, a nonlinear vdW force between any two layers of MLGSs will be derived as explicit formulas. Based on the derived formulas for the vdW force, a nonlinear stacked plate model will be established for the large amplitude vibration of MLGSs. The implementation of the proposed mechanics model for splitting apart MLGSs into a few- or even single-layered graphene sheet will be explored in this project.
