Description
Voltage sags are unavoidable brief reductions in the voltage from momentary disturbances, such as lightning strikes and rambunctious animals, on the power system. Although most of them last for less than half a second, this is often long enough for many process control systems to drop out. Such an unplanned stoppage can cause the system to take a long time to restart and can lead to the high cost of lost production. The dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is presently the most cost-effective and thorough solution to mitigate voltage sags by establishing the proper quality voltage level for utility customers. However, the majority of voltage restoration technologies lack bidirectional power handling capabilities. They cannot provide ride through for loads associated with energy regeneration functions, such as electric cranes. This functional imperfection originates from the disregard of the interaction between the sagged supply and the regenerated load power in conventional design considerations. This project will explore an advanced DVR architecture that can flexibly and swiftly manage the flow of the load power. The technology allows for a near seamless transition in the occurrence of a voltage sag while maintaining the load with a superior-quality voltage continuously in both energy consumptive and regenerative modes.
