The Thomson Reuters 2014 Highly Cited Researchers are selected based on the number of highly cited papers they produced over the 11 year period, 2002—2012, in each of some 21 broad fields used in Essential Science Indicators. Highly cited papers rank in the top 1% by citations for their field and year of publication.
