Biography

Dr. Siu was born in Hong Kong. He graduated from the University of Manchester with a B.Sc. Hon degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. He later obtained his Ph.D degree from the University of Hong Kong. Dr. Siu joined the Racal-British Communications Corporation, UK, in July 1981 as a Design Engineer. During his time with Racal-BCC, he worked on various tactical communications systems and control equipment. He was the company representative (Racal-BCC) to the Racal Group Software Reliability Committee. In recognition of his contribution to the company and his performance, he was promoted to Intermediate Engineer, Senior Engineer and finally in 1988 to Principal Engineer (Team leader).

In 1989, Dr. Siu returned to Hong Kong. After leaving Racal, he took up employment with the Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) as a Network Services Officer Grade 1 in the Information System Division. His job responsibility was planning and implementing the bank's data communication networks. He was responsible for a new high speed data communications network project and the network migration for the new Standard Chartered Bank building, which was occupied by the bank in early 1990 as its main headquarters.

In 1990, Dr. Siu joined the City University of Hong Kong and began his academic career as a Lecturer. He is now an Associate Professor and the Programme Leader of the BEngEE (Self-financing) Programme at the Electronic Engineering Department. He was voted by the students as one of the best teachers in the aspects of teaching and communications. Dr. Siu is a Chartered Engineer and a corporate member of several professional engineering institutions. He was the Chairman of the IEEE Consumer Electronics Chapter for the sessions 1999 and 2000. 

Besides his teaching, administration duties and professional services, Dr. Siu is also involved in research work. His current research interests are information delivery and transmission security using spread spectrum techniques. He is also working on external consultancy projects for local industries. He is currently a consultant to several engineering companies.
