Biography

City University of Hong Kong is a public university offering undergraduate and graduate courses to individuals wishing to increase their education. Located in Kowloon, the University contains the faculties of Science, Engineering, Business, and Law and provides specialized courses and unique opportunities for students to learn both in the classroom and in the field. As an Associate Professor, Dr. Chow offers instruction and research supervision for students in the electronic and optoelectronic fields. He oversees lab work, co-ordinates with other educators to establish curriculum, and offers advisement to students. Dr. Chow was given the opportunity to plan and establish the Laboratories specifically for the Optoelectronics Research Centre, introducing new technology to provide current education to students and researchers. In addition to his professorial duties, Dr. Chow has been involved in research of integrated waveguides for telecommunications and sensors, the nonlinear effects in the waveguides and fibers, as well as rare-earth doped waveguide lasers and diode pumped solid state lasers. Dr. Chow petitions the Government and the University for funding for research projects. He was awarded over HK$4,000,000 for the funding of his research. Enjoying his success, Dr. Chow intends to continue educating students and researching new technology.

Associations & Accomplishments:

Recipient of Croucher Scholarship; Original Coordinator, the Confederation of Chinese Association in Scotland Charity Sports Day, Vice Patron of the Masonic Trust For Girls And Boys. Dr. Chow was awarded the J.H. Murray Prize by Heriot-Watt University (in recognition of his achievement in the field of Optics), selected by the American Biographical Institute as a World Lifetime Achievement Award, selected by the International Biographical Centre as an International Man of the Year for 1996/97 (in recognition of his services to the field of Optoelectronics) and the 20th Century Award (in recognition of outstanding achievements in the field of Photonics). Dr. Chow has prepared, presented and published over 90 articles related to nonlinear optics, lasers and other elements for various international journals, symposiums and conferences. His biography is listed in the Marquis Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Men of Achievement as well as in the International Who's Who of Professionals
