Biography
Dr. Sun earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Thermal Energy and Power Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in 2003 and 2006, respectively. He received his Ph.D. in Building Services Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2010 and joined the City University of Hong Kong in 2014 as an Assistant Professor.
His research focuses on sustainable and low‑carbon urban energy systems, with particular emphasis on renewable energy deployment in high‑density cities, smart building energy management using data‑driven and machine learning approaches, optimization of complex HVAC system design and control, and multiscale immersion cooling technologies for data centers, among other related areas.
Dr. Sun has published over 150 peer‑reviewed SCI journal papers, with most appearing in A+ international journals under CityUHK criteria. His research is cited nearly twice as often as the global average, with a Field‑Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) of 1.92. Dr. Sun has also been invited to deliver keynote speeches at multiple prominent international conferences.
He has been Principal Investigator for many competitive research grants, including the General Research Fund (GRF) and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) programs. Consistently ranked among Stanford’s Top 2% of Scientists (2021–now), Dr. Sun also serves as Editor of Building Simulation and Editorial Board Member of Sustainability. His work seeks to advance data‑driven, practical solutions for a more sustainable built environment.
