Biography

Dr. Young Jin Chun received the B.S. degree from Yonsei University in 2004, the M.S. degree from the University of Michigan in 2007, and the Ph.D. degree from Iowa State University in 2011, all in electrical engineering. From September 2011 to October 2018, he had been with Sungkyunkwan University, Qatar University, and Queen's University Belfast on various academic positions. Dr. Chun joined the City University of Hong Kong in November 2018 as an Assistant Professor in Wireless Communication at the Department of Electronic Engineering. His research interests are primarily in the area of wireless communications with an emphasis on stochastic geometry, system-level network analysis, device-to-device communications, and various use-cases of 5G communications.

Position(s) Available

We are currently seeking highly motivated students to join our research group. Research assistant position is available to highly motivated student who is pursuing Ph.D in wireless communications and networks. The methods/tools that we use include: stochastic geometry, queuing theory, channel measurement and statistical characterization, cross-layer optimization, probability and random processes, etc.

The research topics that you will be involved include, but not limited to,

  • statistical modeling of the 5G/6G wireless channel,
  • system-level performance analysis of THz/mmWave enabled wireless networks,
  • channel analysis for Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) added communication,
  • blockchain assisted IoT network design.

Interested students with strong wireless communication and mathematical background are encouraged to email their CV to Dr. Chun (email: [email protected]).

Research Interests/Areas

My research interests span the areas of wireless communications with emphasis on stochastic geometry, system level network design and optimization, 5G/6G communications, RF channel measurement and statistical characterization, IoT, blockchain, multiuser MIMO, and mmWave/THz communication.
