Biography
Yizhuo Li is a scholar specialising in Ming-Qing studies. Her research interests include fiction and drama, theatre and performance, gender and sexuality, and the interplay between literature and religion. She completed her undergraduate studies in Chinese literature at Fudan University (BA 2018), followed by MPhil training at the University of Hong Kong (2020). She received her Ph.D. in Chinese studies from the University of Cambridge (2024).
Yizhuo is working on a book project based on her Ph.D. dissertation "Bellicose Beauties: Villainesses, Gender Transgression, and Martial Drama in Beijing, 1774-1911", which examines the writing and performance of villainous female warriors during the rise of miscellaneous local traditions, or Flowery Operas (huabu花部), in Qing theatre.
