Biography

Prof. Yi LU is a tenured Associate Professor in Architecture at the City University of Hong Kong. He received his bachelor’s degree of architecture from Southeast University in China, his master’s degree from National University of Singapore, and PhD from Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. His research areas include healthy cities, spatial analysis, and environment-behavior studies, such as how urban design characteristics influence walking and healthy outcomes and how nursing unit design influences staff behaviors.

Prof. LU published over 130 SCI/SSCI articles in leading academic journals. He is the director of Healthy Urban & Buildings (HUB) Lab.

He was awarded over HK$3M in external research grants as a principal investigator from various agencies, such as the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He serves as the deputy director of the Environmental-behavior Research Committee and an editorial board member of Landscape and Urban Planning, and Urban Forestry and Urban Greening. He is named the 2023 Highly Cited Researcher in the field of social sciences by Clarivate Analytics (1 in 1000) and the Top 2% Most Highly Cited Scientist by Stanford University in multiple years.

Position(s) Available

Our research team is looking for talented applicants in position of Ph.D student, research assistant, Post-doc researchers, visiting scholar/student.  

Our team is interested in health cities, walkability, spaital analysis. Please refer to the publication list.

Minimum Requirements of PhD study:

1) B.S. in architecture, urban planning, or Geography, or other related fields

2) General admission requirements (English, GPA) 

Desirable qualification: 

preference will be given to the applicants with experience in GIS, statistics, computer programming (such as python), environment-behavior studies, sustainability and green building, machine learning and big data analytics, streetscape image processing, health cities. 

Assistantship Package:

HK$16,200 per month for 12 months per year. Travel expenses will be covered for research-related activities (conference, data collection, research exchange and etc.)

The chance will increase with a higher GPA (>85 in a 100 scale) and more peer-reviewed international journal papers published (Must be SCI/SSCI and top 50% in category as first or second author).

 

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship

In case you have a high GPA with a strong publication record, you are encouraged to apply for Hong Kong PhD Fellowship. The monthly stipend of HKPFS is HK$20,000/month. In addition, conference and travel allowance of HK$10,000 per year is provided for HKPFS awardees.
