Biography

HUANG Yu is currently the Jeanie Hu Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Chair Professor of Biomedical Science and Vascular Biology at City University of Hong Kong and has been Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences (2021-2026). He earned his bachelor's degree from Fudan University Shanghai Medical College and his Ph.D. from University of Cambridge. Before joining City University of Hong Kong in 2021, Prof. Huang was A3 Professor in Biomedical Sciences at Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Founding Director (Basic Science) of Heart and Vascular Institute.

Prof. Huang was elected as a Foreign Member of Academia Europaea in 2025. He served as President of the Asian Society for Vascular Biology (2010–2018) and Vice President of the Chinese Society of Vascular Medicine (2015–2021). He currently serves as Vice President of Chinese Section of International Society for Heart Research (since 2016) and Vice President of Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences (since 2022), and a member of the International Council of the International Society for Heart Research (since 2025). He has been elected as Fellow of International Society for Heart Research (2019), Fellow of the International Union of Physiological Sciences Academy of Physiology (2023), and Fellow of the British Pharmacological Society (2023). He received the inaugural Senior Research Fellow Award from Hong Kong Research Grants Council (2020) and the Croucher Senior Research Fellow Award from Croucher Foundation of Hong Kong (2014).

Prof. Huang has served on grant review panels for Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC), Hong Kong Health and Medical Research Fund, National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Fund, and as Chairman of the Biomedical Sciences Review Panel at University of Macau. He also serves on assessment panel (Biology) of University Grants Committee – Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2026 Hong Kong. He is the Founding Vice President (since November 2025) of the RGC Research Fellows Alliance. He has served as Editor, Guest Editor, Associate Editor, and Editorial Board Member for 18 SCI-indexed journals. He has reviewed research proposals for 35 funding agencies across 14 countries and regions, and manuscripts for over 270 scientific journals. He has been appointed as Visiting Professor by 12 universities and research institutions, including Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University, University of Science and Technology of China, University of Macau, University of Malaya, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Peking University School of Basic Medical Sciences, and Xi'an Jiaotong University School of Medicine.

His research focuses on cellular and molecular mechanisms of endothelial dysfunction in hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and atherosclerosis. His laboratory is also dedicated to identifying novel biomarkers for vascular diseases and therapeutic strategies to reverse vascular dysfunction in preclinical models. He has coauthored 555 papers in SCI-indexed journals including Nature, Science, Cell Metabolism, Circulation Research, European Heart Journal, PNAS, Diabetes, Hypertension, ATVB, Stroke, and Kidney International. with over 41,150 citations on Google Scholar and an h-index of 105. 

Prof. Huang has received numerous highly prestigious honors. He is the first Asian scholar to receive the British Pharmacological Society's 2025 Vane Medal (named after 1982 Nobel Laureate, Sir John Vane) and the first Chinese scholar to receive the International Society for Heart Research's 2024 Peter Harris Distinguished Scientist Award. He is also the first Chinese national to serve as Associate Editor of Circulation Research (since 2019). Other honors include the Outstanding Contribution Award from the Vascular Medicine Committee of the Chinese Association of Pathophysiology (2021), the 2020 WuXi AppTec Life Chemistry Research Award, the Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Award from the Ministry of Education of China (First Prize in Natural Sciences, 2019; Second Prizes, 2017 and 2012), the China National Natural Science Award (Second Prize, 2015).

His scientific impact has been recognized by Stanford’s top 2% most-cited scientists list (both career-long and single-year) since 2020. His rankings place him in the top 1 % in Pharmacology and Pharmacy and the Cardiovascular System and Hematology.

He is frequently invited as a keynote speaker. Major lectures include the Vane Medal Award Lecture, the Peter Harris Distinguished Scientist Award Lecture, the Bei Shizhang Lecture at the University of Science and Technology of China (2023), Paul M Vanhoutte Memorial Lecture (2024), a keynote lecture at the 19th World Congress of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (WCP2023, Glasgow), the University of Macau Distinguished Scholar Lecture (2019), the Asian Vascular Biology Lecture (Shanghai, 2018), the Robert F. Furchgott Lecture (named after 1998 Nobel Laureate, Robert F. Furchgott, Zurich, 2013), and the National University of Singapore Distinguished Scholar Lecture (2007).

黃聿現任香港城市大學生物醫學系胡梁子慧講座教授及生物醫學系講座教授，並自2021年10月起擔任生物醫學系系主任。他於復旦大學上海醫學院取得學士學位，其後於劍橋大學獲得博士學位。在2021年加入香港城市大學之前，黃教授曾於香港中文大學擔任生物醫學A3講座教授，並為心臟及血管研究所的創所所長（基礎科學）。

黃教授於2025年當選為歐洲科學院（Academia Europaea）外籍院士。他曾任亞洲血管生物學會主席（2010–2018年）及中國血管醫學學會副主席（2015–2021年）。他現任國際心臟研究學會中國分會副主席（2016年至今）及中國生理學會副理事長（2022年至今）。他亦為國際心臟研究學會國際理事會成員（2025年至今）。他當選為國際心臟研究學會會士（2019年）、國際生理科學聯合會生理學研究院会士（2023年）及英國藥理學會會士（2023年）。他曾獲得首屆香港研究資助局高級研究學者獎（2020年）及香港裘槎基金會裘槎資深研究學者獎（2014年）。

在學術評審與服務方面，黃教授現任或曾任香港研究資助局、香港醫療衛生研究基金、中國自然科學基金委員會、香港創新及科技基金等多個基金組織擔任評審小組成員，並任澳門大學生物醫學科學評審小組主席。他亦擔任大學教育資助委員會 – 2026年研究評審工作（RAE2026）生物學評審小組成員。他是香港研究資助局研究學者協會創會副主席（2025年11月起）。

迄今為止，他現任或曾任18本SCI收錄期刊的編輯、客座編輯、副編輯及編輯委員會成員。他曾為14個國家及地區的35個資助機構評審研究計劃書。黃教授先後獲12所大學及研究機構聘為客座教授，包括復旦大學上海醫學院、中國科學技術大學、澳門大學、馬來亞大學、上海交通大學醫學院、北京大學基礎醫學院及西安交通大學醫學院。

黃教授的研究專注於闡明驅動主要心血管代謝疾病（包括高血壓、肥胖症及糖尿病）中內皮功能障礙的細胞及分子機制。他的實驗室亦致力於識別血管疾病的新型生物標誌物，並研究在臨床前模型中逆轉血管功能障礙的治療策略。此項研究的影響力反映於其豐富的出版紀錄，包括在《Nature》、《Science》、《Cell Metabolism》、《Circulation Research》、《European Heart Journal》、《PNAS》、《Diabetes》、《Hypertension》、《ATVB》、《Stroke》及《Kidney International》等SCI收錄期刊上發表555篇論文。其著作在Google Scholar上獲超過41,150次引用，h指數為105。

自2020年起，他連續入選史丹福全球前2%頂尖科學家名單（終身及年度影響力）。在藥理學與藥劑學領域及心血管系統與血液學領域排名前1%。

他亦常獲邀擔任國際學術會議主講嘉賓，重要講座包括Vane獎主題演講（2025）、Peter Harris 傑出科學家獎講座（2024)、Paul M Vanhoutte 紀念講座（2024)、中國科學技術大學貝時璋講座（2023）、第十九屆世界基礎與臨床藥理學大會主題演講（WCP2023，格拉斯哥）、澳門大學傑出學人講座（2019)、亞洲血管生物學講座（2018，上海）、Robert F. Furchgott講座（以1998年諾貝爾獎得主羅伯特·F·弗奇戈特教授命名, 2013，蘇黎世）及新加坡國立大學傑出學人講座（2007).
