Dr. Ma is a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, lecturing in areas of geometric design, CAD/CAM, finite element analysis, and rapid prototyping technologies. Before joining CityU in 1995, he worked as a research fellow at Materialise N.V., a rapid prototyping firm in Belgium, where he developed software modules on medical CAD modelling from Computed Tomography (CT) data. He also worked as a research fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, on CAD/CAM, reverse engineering, dimensional metrology and dimensional inspection. He also worked as an instructor and engineer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (now School of Mechanical Engineering), East China Institute of Technology (now Nanjing University of Science and Technology), China, on dynamic measurement, mechanical vibration and design optimization. His present research interests include computer aided geometric design, CAD/CAM/CAE, isogeometric analysis, virtual reality for product design, reverse engineering, 3D printing and rapid manufacturing.
