Biography

Dr. Wong received his B.Sc. from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in November 1977. He spent two years as a Teaching Assistant in the university before taking an M.Sc. course in instrument design and applications at UMIST in the UK. In 1980, he joined Hewlett Packard Ltd., Queensferry Telecommunication Division (Scotland), as a Development Engineer and was soon promoted to Senior Development Engineer. His responsibility was the development of test equipment for digital communication which included HP37100 Remote Access and Test System, HP3709 Constellation Analyzer, HP3787 Digital Data Test Set and HP37900 Signaling Test Set. During his eight-year career with HP, he was twice awarded the company's "Option Shares" for his distinctive contribution to the Research and Development Department. He was also sponsored by the company to complete a part-time Ph.D. at Edinburgh University from 1982 to 1987 in the area of digital microwave communication. Within the same period, he received a B.A. from the Open University, UK. In September 1988 he returned to Hong Kong and took up a Senior Lecturer post in the City Polytechnic of Hong Kong. Dr Wong has close liasion with local industry. His expertise is in digital communication, telecommunication measurement and circuit design.
