Dr. Wisal Ahmed is a researcher in Structural Engineering, focusing on developing sustainable, low-carbon concrete materials via eco-friendly utilization of industrial waste and natural pozzolan materials. He is a Postdoc in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at City University of Hong Kong (CityU). He completed his Ph.D. Degree in Civil Engineering from the same University in August 2023. He received Master of Science in Structural Engineering Degree from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad, Pakistan in 2017. He earned Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Degree from University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar in 2015. Before joining CityU, he worked as a lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, Military College of Engineering (MCE), NUST, Pakistan.
Dr. Ahmed's areas of expertise are in structural engineering, concrete materials, analysis and design of reinforced concrete members, sustainable concrete, supplementary cementitious materials, fiber reinforced concrete, and eco-friendly materials. His current research area is focused on developing low-carbon concrete by using recycled aggregate, waste glass and sustainable pozzolan materials. Throughout his academic and research career, Dr. Ahmed has been actively involved and dedicated to advancing the field of sustainable & green concrete. His PhD thesis titled “Production of Sustainable Fiber Reinforced Concrete via Composite Utilization of Pozzolana Slurry Treated Recycled Aggregate and Basalt Fiber” was recognized with the Outstanding Research Thesis Award 2023 by City University of Hong Kong. He believes in cross-disciplinary collaborations and is passionate about teaching, mentoring, and leadership.
