Biography

Professor Vanessa Barrs is the Bank of China Hong Kong (BOCHK) Chair Provessor of Veterinary Medicine and Dean of the Jockey Club College of Medicine and Life Sciences.

Professof Barrs is an internationally renowned One-Health Infectious Diseases researcher with broad research interests in fungal, viral and bacterial pathogens. She discovered Aspergillus felis, an opportunistic pathogen of cats, dogs and humans.

Professor Barrs has authored over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts and text book chapters.  Before moving to Hong Kong in 2019, she was based at the University of Sydney for over 15 years Professor Barrs, where she was Head of the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Director of the University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Camperdown, Sydney.
