Biography

Siew Chong (SC) TAN is a Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR. He was born and raised in Singapore. He received his BEng and MEng degrees in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Singapore, Singapore, and subsequently his PhD in Electronic and Information Engineering from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Prior to CityU, SC spents 12 years at the University of Hong Kong, where he was a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and held administrative positions of Associate Head of Department, Assistant Dean of Faculty, and Director of Research Student Centre. Previously, TAN worked as an academic at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and as a Senior Scientist at A*Star Singapore. He has spent time as a visitor at Grainger Center for Electric Machinery and Electromechanics, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, U.S.A. and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China.

SC's research interests span broadly in nonlinear power electronics control, LED drivers and lighting control, electric springs, specializes in power electronics, smart grid technologies, and emerging power converters. He has published 3 research monographs, more than 300 research papers, and has been granted 31 patents from 13 inventions. He is a Fellow of IEEE.
