Biography
Dr Robert Jay Ellis-Geiger is a multiple award nominee, Hong Kong based film composer, conductor, musician and score producer. He has been twice nominated for Hong Kong Golden Bauhinia film awards for his work for critically acclaimed directors on Johnnie To’s 以和為貴 Election 2 (2006) and Patrick Tam’s 父子 After This Our Exile (2006). He recently completed the score for Oscar award winning director Ruby Yang’s new film My Voice, My Life (2014), which was released in October 2014.
A musician and composer trained in classical, jazz and modern vocal production, Ellis-Geiger frequently combines culturally and technologically diverse acoustic and electronic instruments ranging from small eclectic ensembles to full orchestra. He is an active performer and studio musician (piano, trumpet, voice) of pop-fusion, jazz, blues, and folk through to classical. As a music producer, he has collaborated with leading international artists such as Vietnam’s premiere jazz musician Trần Mạnh Tuấn.
Ellis-Geiger is co-directing a documentary film with Dr Louisa Wei on the life works of Cui Jian, the father of China Rock. He is currently developing alternative music recording and sound production methods for immersive cinematic audio formats, such as: Dolby Atmos, Auro-3D and Iosono.
