Bovine Production Medicine
Dr. Pedro Melendez joined City University of Hong Kong in January 2023 as a Clinical Professor in Bovine Production Medicine.
He obtained his DVM at the University of Chile, and then he pursued a residency program in Food Animal Medicine at the University of Florida (USA), and earned a Master of Science in 2000 and a Ph.D. in 2004 at the same University. He is a diplomate at the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Dairy Specialty. He was a faculty member at the University of Chile, University of Florida (USA), University Santo Tomas (Chile), University of Missouri, University of Georgia and Texas Tech University. His teaching focuses on all aspects of dairy production medicine, with special emphasis on nutritional management and metabolic diseases in dairy cattle.
Dr. Melendez is part of the editorial board of the journal "JDS Communications" An official journal of the American Dairy Science Association®, the journal "Dairy" a peer-reviewed, open-access journal on dairy science published quarterly online by MDPI, and the journal "Animals" a peer-reviewed, open access journal by MDPI
Dr. Melendez research program involves the management of transition dairy cow, epidemiology of periparturient diseases, nutrition and feeding management of dairy cattle, and the relationship between nutrition, fertility and health of dairy cattle.
Dr. Melendez is author of several peer-reviewed publications listed on PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar.
Dr. Melendez receives applications from graduate students, research assistants, and postdoctoral associates interested to pursue research projects in the area of bovine production medicine with special emphasis on dairy cattle.
