Prof. Pingan Zhu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), where he leads the Adaptive Interfacial and Multiphysical Systems (AIMS) Laboratory. His research is centered on the emerging field of Interfacial Physical Intelligence (IPI), which seeks to understand and engineer how physical systems acquire functionality through the interplay of interfaces, structures, and multiphysical interactions. His work advances the fundamental physics and engineering of microscale flows, interfacial phenomena, and architected multiphysical systems, with emerging directions spanning droplet dynamics, capillary transport, soft matter systems, and bioinspired micro/nanorobotics.
Positions for PhD Students
We are looking for highly motivated PhD students and Research Assistants to join us. Applicants with research backgrounds in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, applied physics, micro/nanofabrication, chemical engineering, soft matter, and surface/interface science and engineering are preferred; students with backgrounds in other fields are also encouraged to apply. If you are interested, please send your CV, transcripts (including average grades in the hundred-mark system), and publications (if any) to Dr. Zhu ([email protected]). Please note that only those who are shortlisted for an interview will be contacted.
English Proficiency Requirements
Toefl score of 79 or above, or IELTS score of 6.5 or above, or CET-6 score of 490 or above.
