Biography

Ping Lu is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, City University of Hong Kong. She received her B.Eng. with first class honours in Environmental Engineering from Tsinghua University and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Princeton University. Her work has been focused on characterizing the 'worst-case scenarios' of tropical cyclone hazards using tropical cyclone risk assessment, which includes using statistical downscaling from climate models to generate large number of synthetic storm tracks across the point of interest and estimating the probability of occurrence for hazards using Monte Carlo simulations. Specifically, she is very interested in the rainfall mechanisms, inland flooding, eyewall replacement, rapid intensification, and internal dynamical constraints of storm intensity of landfalling tropical cyclones.
