Biography

Dr. Omid Nekouei joined City University of Hong Kong in October 2020 as an Assistant Professor in Evidence-based Veterinary Medicine and Epidemiology. 

He holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of Tehran in Iran and a PhD in Veterinary Epidemiology from the University of Prince Edward Island in Canada, where he investigated the epidemiology and control of bovine leukosis. He undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Calgary, assessing the transmission risk of antimicrobial resistant bacteria to humans from cattle and chickens. Omid turned his focus to the epidemiology of infectious diseases in aquatic species when he returned to the University of Prince Edward Island as a postdoctoral researcher. He then worked as a Veterinary Epidemiologist with the Government of Canada in Ottawa and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Italy.

Omid’s research focus over the past years has been on the investigation of infectious diseases in various animal species, microbial risk assessment, and statistical modelling and analyses of epidemiological data. He has gained extensive experience in teaching Epidemiology and Biostatistics to undergraduate and graduate students during his career.
