Biography

Dr. Mingzhu Wang currently is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at City University of Hong Kong. She obtained her PhD degree from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2019. After her PhD study, she worked as a Research Associate at the Centre for Systems Engineering and Innovation (CSEI) at Imperial College London. Dr. Wang joined Loughborough University as a Lecturer in Construction Management at the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering in 2021 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2024. Her research focus on construction robotics, human-robot collaboration, intelligent infrastructure inspection and management, construction safety and digital twin. Dr. Wang has authored and co-authored several publications in high-ranked journals and conference proceedings. In addition, her research has obtained support from various funders, such as Hong Kong Research Grant Council (RGC), InnovateUK, UNESCO, Skanska and the Oval Partnership.

Position(s) Available

I am seeking highly motivated PhD students, Postdocs and RAs to join my research group in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at City University of Hong Kong. Relevant research topics include but limited to: construction robotics, human-robot collaboration, digital twin, 3D reconstruction of the built environment, construction safety, and intelligent infrastructure inspection. Applicants with other relevant research ideas are encouraged to discuss with me.

 

Requirements:

  1. Obtained B.S./M.Sc in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Computer Science, or other related fields (before PhD entrance).
  2. Graduated from Double First-Class universities or disciplines with a GPA>85/100.
  3. Meet the minimum English language proficiency requirements of the City University of Hong Kong with IELTS (overall>=6.5) or TOEFL >=79.
  4. Preferences will be given to applicants who:
    • Obtained B.S. with high GPA from 985/211 universities, C9, or world top 100 universities.
    • Experienced in programming and data analytics.
    • Published peer-reviewed international journal papers with SCI index.
  5. Requirements for Postdoctoral Fellow / RA can be different from the above. Applicants are encouraged to send email to me to have further discussion.
  • 持有土木工程、工程管理、计算机科学、自动化或相关领域本科或以上学位。

  • 如果学士学位授予单位非全英文教学,需要具有符合条件的英语考试成绩(如托福>=79,雅思>=6.5)。

  • 大陆学生本科或硕士毕业于985/211/双一流,平均分85分以上,通过学校招生审核的几率较大。

Benefits:

  1. Full Ph.D. Scholarship (HKD 17,510/month) for regular Ph.D. students. Travel expenses will be covered for research-related activities (conference, data collection, research exchange, etc.).
  2. Hong Kong government provides PhD fellowships to around 300 students every year, with stipend of HK$27,600 per month. Exceptionally outstanding candidates very good academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
  3. Joint Ph.D. Candidates: CityU provides a graduate scholarship for students eligible for joint training programs, allowing them to simultaneously obtain a Ph.D. degree from both a mainland university and the City University of Hong Kong. Applications are accepted from October to December each year for admission in September of the following year.
  4. Self-funded Ph.D. Students: the research group will provide research subsidies based on the individual performance.
